Rachel Barker of Amherst is Miss New Hampshire 2007. She competed as Miss Seacoast in the 61st Annual Miss New Hampshire Scholarship Program Saturday night, April 28, 2007. A 19-year-old graduate of Souhegan High School, she is a sophomore at Hofstra University where she declared her major in Public Relations and a minor in Speech Communication and Rhetorical Studies. She received high honors in high school and is currently a Dean's List student in college. She also belonged to the National Honor Society and won the New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters Scholarship during her high school career.

Rachel's volunteerism revolves around her passion for dance. She served as Captain of the Souhegan High School Dance Team, a member of the schools' Community Council, and is now a member of the Hofstra University Dance Team. As a member of the team, she volunteers her time as an instructor for "College Prep Dance Clinics" for middle and high school students in the Long Island, New York area.

She has performed at Madison Square Garden, and attended Universal Dance Association National Championship in Orlando, where her team took home 3rd place honors in Hip Hop. She has danced since the age of four, and she is also an accomplished vocalist and actress. Rachel is a member of the International Thespian Society.

Rachel's career ambition is to work in public relations for an Arts Education organization. Her platform is "The Importance of Fine Arts Education in Public Schools." She plans to devote her year of service to the speaking about and promoting awareness of the importance of Fine Arts Education in public schools.

Rachel resides in Amherst with her parents, Deborah and Keith Barker. She has two brothers, Christopher, 22 and Jonathan, 14.

She will compete for the title of Miss America in 2008.
